“I express my heartfelt condolences to the people of Lithuania for the passing away of former President and Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas.
As President and Primer Minister, Algirdas Brazauskas made a critical contribution to his country’s integration into the European Union. I worked closely with him and have known him as a true statesman who was deeply committed to our European project and its values.
The European Commission joins me in this expression of sympathy and tribute.”
